but one time i held my eyes open and nothing happened

Hmmm, never thought about it, but I think even if you try to keep them open you will not be able to because of the force of the sneeze.

The air pressure created when you sneeze is so powerful that if you plug your nose, your eyeballs will pop out of your head. So it is your body's automatic self defense to keep that from happening. I'm not a doctor but I slept at a Holiday Inn last night.

No, your eyeballs won't pop out, silly people. It is your body's natural reaction to the stimuli of sneezing. It happens so your eyes will not be sprayed with any of the germs that are exiting your mouth and nose.

When you sneeze, your eyes involuntarily slam shutting providing an air-tight seal against those 100mph airborne nasties!

its just a reflex from the muscle of your eye so you eyeballs dont pop out of your head.

i don't know this but ill guess and i think its so you don't get that mist in your eyes and it makes you blink when you sneeze and your eye lids protect them from that mist or whatever that comes out your nose.

Your eyes drain into your nasal passage ways (Thats why when you cry, you tend to get a stuffy/runny nose), a sneeze on average exits your nose at roughtly 100mph, thats a lot of pressure! You close your eyes because otherwise the pressure would quickly build up behind your eyes and push them out of their sockets.

try n keep ur eyes open when u sneeze ur eyes will blow 12 ft outa ur head!!!

bacause the force of a sneeze can dislodge the eyeballs from the sockets and ur eyelids close to stop this happening
