I have another tooth abcess but the Dentist won't prescribe me antibiotics until he sees me. They say he can't simply prescribe because he hasn't seen me for some time - but we are told that once a year is enough.

Answer:

Its not that we dont know our bodies, its that we haven't been trained to fix them.

Wrong or over useage of antibiotics have caused the production of superbugs such as MRSA.

It is only right that a Doctor or Dentist needs to see you. I know its frustrating if you know what you're talking about but a lot of people dont.

In the meantime, gargle with salt water or diflam mouthwash until your dentist can fit you in. It may clear up on its own, which has got to be better than having anti-b's

They can't prescribe medicine over the phone because they haven't diagnosed anything. They can't assume that you know it is an infection, what if it is something else? They have their career at stake here.

Antibiotics have to be prescribed and therefore a doctor/dentist has to see you. If they take the word of every patient they would end up prescribing wrongly.

He has to see your condition, he can't just give you antibotics if you don't need them, you'll eventually become resistant to it which is why they should be used sparingly.

Also, it's a liability issue. He's not going to risk his license for your convienence. Should something go wrong because he blindly perscribed medication to you, he'd be screwed.

They have to see you to cover their own backsides! I have health problems and I know about whats going on with my body, I ask for blood test result print outs from my GP too. She does not like it but its my body and if I want to know then I have a right to know!
