Why does my heart race, its starts to go really fast about 170bpm and then i get a tight chest and then go dizzy and even sometimes pass out. My doctor had ruled out thyroid problems and says it because of stress, but it happens when i am completely relaxed and I went dizzy in the bath earlier and had to scream for my mum. Is my doctor right? If so what can i do to stop it

Sounds right, you may be having a sort of panic attack, however I have a mate who has vasovagal syn-copy and this happens to her though I thought it was because of low BP

Ask your doctor to check you for carbon monoxide poisoning. It causes a rapid heartbeat. Also, I saw a show recently where a person kept having a racing heart and it was because of sleep apnea. This mans heart would race periodically throughout the day. They kept thinking he was about to have a heart attack, but he never did. Finally they figured out that the sleep apnea was putting a strain on his heart that caused it to beat too fast.

If you have any concerns at all then you should go back to your doctor. Ask if you can be referred to a specialist - you have the right to a second opinion - to rule out any other causes.

I should think that if have passed out in the past, and you had a turn tonight whilst in the bath, then you should explain your worries to the doctor. You certainly shouldn't have a bath with the door locked until you've sorted this out.

...I'm no doctor but i have similar symptoms...panic attacks and anxiety disorder are a possibility...i took medication that stopped it ...i know it is scary but once you realize you won't die from it that should help calm you down...i too would get them when completely relaxed...don't worry - you are not alone - see a specialist...the only other possibility i can think of is a heart arrhythmia...completely curable

Thyroid would give you palpitations but not them symptoms ,I would go back for another opinion.

I can understand why you are so concerned about your dizziness, racing heart, tight chest and sometimes even passing out. I am not a doctor, so I would have to say go back to your doctor if you have any concerns. If he can't figure it out, maybe he can refer you to someone who can.
