I can understand why you'd sneeze if something was irritating your nasal passage, but when you're cold, or you *have* a cold?
Answer:cuz the mucus is irritating your nasal passages
It works the same; your nasal passage is irritated.
It's your bodies way of clearing out the nasal tubes.
I think it has to do with mucus starting to form, but I'm not sure.
sneezing and coughing are both defense mechanism of your body. they work to expell foreign bodies that tries to enter your lungs (because our lungs are suppose to be sterile). and because there is presence of infection or bacterias on your upper respiratory tract, your body will try to prevent these bacterias to go down your lungs. or else it will lead to further complications such as pneumonia or tb perhaps.
