Why do hospitals always give patients a gown that doesnt do up at the back

When people go to hospital to have and xray or examination, I notice that the patients always get a gown that never quite does up at the back, Is this so they don't want to come back too often?

Answer:

no its because no one asks for a second one to put on backwards try it soetime

Yes, I hate those things. They also print the name of the hospital all over it, just in case anyone likes it so much they want to steal it...
No it gives the nurses a good giggle.
So they can have a laugh at the patients expense
For the general amusement of the staff.
I wondered that often myself....it does not make sense to me either and I asked the nurses already several times that question, but nobody was able to give me a satisfying answer.
good question, but the official answer is - to stop all the dangly bits showing. sorry to burst your bubble
So they can take it off / put it on from the front while you are poorly in your bed
easy access
It's to make it easy for staff to remove if they need to, especially where the patient may be sedated or unconcious.

Unfortunately, the budget would not permit them to have different designs for different cases, so it's a case of "one style fits all"

for medical reasons if at any time they need to access youa complete gown would have to come off. would you rather be totally exposed or still have some dignity?yes they are pain but look at the options
this is so when they are in the operating theatre it's easier and quicker for the medical team to remove it, if needs be....if it wasn't open at the back, and with the weight of the person laid on it wouldn't be easy to pull it over their head and from under them...Are u serious?
It's your ***. No really, all medical personnel on earth have a thing for your ***! It's the truth! can't get enough of it, fabulous, marvelous, OH sorry, I thought you were someone else. The gowns are the cheapest one size fits all thing in the world. Easy in, easy out, easy access for the doc, no mystery.
little known fact - the gowns are open because the more uncovered you are the more pliable you are - you're more likely to do whatthe docs & nurses say if you feel "naked".
LOL you are soo right I worked in them for about 10 years and yes that always happens. Its awful isnt it? I dont know the answer I left and moved to social services we treat people much better. (Qualified nurse please no abuse of other nurses)
It is for easy access. You look decent from the front and it saves your dignity when facing anyone. The tiers at the back can be easily undone and the gown slipped off it there is an emergency, without having to cut you out of it.
i know this as i have been in hospital many times and had the pleasure of wearing them it is so the dr can examine you with ease and in surgey it can be removed easilly while you are under anesthetic
NHS cutbacks!

Im guessing that it may actually be so that if the patien needs assistance ig using the toilet, it will be easier. It also means they can be quickly removed for operations.
