Always wondered this ... no-one "really" seems to know ... when you are taking antibiotics - i.e. penicillin ... WHY do people always say "ohh make sure you dont drink alchohol ..." is it because it makes you drunker .. or does it stop the antibiotics working .. or something else ...

Answer:it lessens the effect of the medication
it kills the medicine..... it doesnt make you more drunk like most people would say. just stops you getting better!
You have just answered your own question. Alcohol does actually prevent antibiotics from working.
Because the become less affective.
Alcohol stop the anti biotics working it actually kills the penicillin.So no booze with anti biotics.
the antibiotics stop working some cases it can ake you feel worst.
It is because it stops them from having the effect they should to kill the infection so really it would be a waste of time even taking them, if someone is taking them then it is up to them to decide if a drink is more important than getting rid of what you have got.
It stops the drugs working and gets you off your face!
at a guess the alcohol interacts with the chemicals in the drugs, so preventing them from being effective.
