Answer:
In patients with renal or hepatic failure urinary clearance of atracurium is similar to that of patients without hepatic or renal failure.
In one British study the half-life of atracurium for the control group was 21 minutes while for a group of patients with renal or hepatic failure the half-life is 22 minutes.
Thus the medication is well-tolerated in patients with renal or hepatic failure.
Atracurium (or Tracrium) is a paralytic agent used to block the function of skeletal muscles. It's given to paralyze a patient before intubation, to paralyze a patient while on mechanical ventilation, or to paralyze a patient during surgery.
This drug is not metabolized by the liver or the kidneys. This is why it can be given to patients in renal or hepatic failure - their medical condition doesn't effect the bioavailablilty of the drug.
