Just one of thos questions that make you go... "hmmm....".
Answer:a few months ago some tv documentary covered that. it was really interesting and they answered the question. makes perfect sense. it is really a social thing with practically all animals. it is a blending in thing. people do it, lions do it, hell, it has nothing much to do with being sleepy or oxygen shortage. isn't that wonderful to know?
"...when you yawn, other people see and their brains say 'hey, that looks fun. I think I'm going to take in some oxygen."
Either you are bored, or need sleep or in most cases your body needs water.
