Why does anyone get an allergy to anything right? It's pretty weird when you think about it.

I personally believe that the reason why people are getting so many allergies these days is that there are a lot more chemicals & unnatural toxins in our environment and in our foods and our bodies are having a difficult time dealing with it all.

In the case of celiac disease, it's genetic. Most common among European ancestry. Just because it's in your genes, doesn't mean that the gene will express though. Celiac disease usually has an onset either from birth, or during a particularly stressful time in your life.

People who have a reaction to wheat bread or any other wheat products, are actually not allergic but have an intolerance to the gluten which is a protein found in wheat grains, barley and rye. The individuals are actually genetically unable to process or breakdown the gluten contained in the wheat flour used to make the bread. Hope this helps.

If I attempt to explain to you the mechanisms of allergic reactions, I will certainly show my lack of a thorough understanding...and probably look like a bonehead. Suffice it to say that sometimes a persons body recognizes a protein as a "foreign invader", whether correctly or not, and a chain of events involving histamine takes place. The important bit here is not why allergic to wheat bread..the reality of the allergy itself is what matters. Some allergic reactions can be life threatening. If this allergic reaction includes a sudden onset of hives, difficulty breathing, weakness or fainting..or worse...I would advise calling 911. Obviously this person should check with his MD or allergist and work out a program to avoid{ as possible} the offending agents.
