Whats wrong with my tonsil

For the past few days one of my tonsils has been very red, swollen, and painful. I know those things are nothing out of the ordinary but I don't understand how only one tonsil is hurting and the other is perfectly fine. I have had 3 bouts of tonsillitis over the past two years so I was thinking that might be it but I've never heard of tonsillitis affecting only one tonsil and it doesn't seem to be as painful as tonsillitis.
I also have allergies and have been getting allergy shots for about 3 and a half years...is it possible that maybe it's just my allergies causing this?
What else could it possibly be??
Answer:go get checked by your doctor
It could be that you have developed a nodule, polyp or other problem. Go get it checked by your doctor to make sure it's nothing serious and to find out what to do about it.
