What is a good sleep medication

health advisory Hospital Health advisory 2007-11-16 5:19:16

what are your experiences with the meds you have tried?

Answer:

As mentioned, melatonin is safe and naturally produced, so smart place to start.

I like tylenol pm or excedrin pm or advil pm (just check dosage of the main sleep aid) and buy one - even generic version works jsut as well.

doctor put me on trazadone - didn't even phase me

visitril - no effect

norco (take daily) - did not put me to sleep

seroquel 100 mg - pretty decent sleep - - 200 mg - very HIGH feelings/dreams/experiences - difficult to function while awake

nyquil - can barely operate a spoon (10% alcohol in it)

hm,, i'm sure there are more - ive' been trying to shut my brain down to get me to sleep for years....

muscle relaxers - darvocet, valium, etc - no effect <my brain is screwed up :)>

try melatonin
i work weekend nights, I find the best thing that puts me to sleep fast is benadryl. though i do not take it all the time only as needed.
Valium. It is a tranquilizer but works very well in settling you down for a good sleep
I have tried a vast array.

Ambien works great, but is addictive. So, your doctor usually won't write you more than a week or two's worth.

Benadryl is sometimes recommended for it's side effect quality of making people drowsy, but for some reason it didn't make me very drowsy.
