Yes, three years ago I was diagnosed with severe manic depression and hospitalized for 8 days. After I was released I was in "group therapy" for 3 months. It was hit and miss with the medications and actually took 6 months to find a combination that controlled the majority of my symptoms though not all. I was able to control the other symptoms through individual therapy and wonderful friends and family.

When in the hospital I was on Risperdal, Ativan, and Lexapro. I had a bad reaction to the Risperdal and was eventually taken off of it. (the reaction was worse than the depression) Eventually I was off the Ativan and only on Lexapro but symptoms returned and the process started all over again to find the right meds.

I made a HUGE mistake and went off my meds after feeling better for a period of about 3 weeks. I thought I had it under control and I didn't like popping pills 3 times a day. I was fine for about a week and then ended up going for a 3 hour drive that I don't remember and came home thinking I went to work for an eight hour shift. My family took me to a different doctor and I started back in with therapy and finding the right meds. I started off on Seroquel to ease anxiety and help me sleep. I was seeing the doctor every 3 days to monitor my progress. As time went on Lexapro was added again. I was feeling somewhat normal again but had no desire to get out of bed. (not good for a mom) Then Wellbutrin was thrown in along with a higher dose of Seroquel and Trazadone to help me sleep. This combo worked for me and I was able to function normally again. My doctor was very good to me and understood what it was like.
