And if so...what meds. do you take? and do you sometimes wish you could get away from your own mind? or feel just crazy somedays?

Answer:

Two of my children are bi-polar. They have been on mood stabilizers, anti-psychotics, sometimes on SSRIs when coupled with a mood stabilizer, and usually also take an anti-anxiety medication. Sleep can be an issue, so melatonin is used to promote falling asleep (we were thankful to be able to use something natural for this purpose).

I know my son often wishes he could leave his own mind, and some days he just is what you might call "crazy."

He is a rapid cycler. I don't know about you, but when the swings are so drastic I know it is difficult for him (and for us).

I just urge you to please use medication and therapy and do so properly. You can and will feel better over time, even though there is trial and error with the meds.

The danger for many bi-polar people is self-medication. Avoid using drugs that your doc does not prescribe, alcohol and illegal drugs. You can, unfortunately, have a propensity to be more easily addicted to these things and if that happens you will have even more on your plate to deal with (and you know things can be tough as it is).

One of my bi-polar sons is currently awaiting trial for crimes he comitted while off his meds and self-medicating with illegal drugs. From the heart of a mom - I'm telling you - don't go there. Don't be afraid to get all the help you need to stay sane and stay safe.
