health advisory Hospital Mental Health 2007-11-15 19:01:56

if you were to take it for years would it damage your body, mind or brain? ive taken it for about 4 years and i dont see myself stopping too soon. so i was wondering if there are any long term affects or anything like that?

Answer:

all medication is not good for your health in general, its like a poison, e.g. for your kidneys - everything has to go threw them.

it helps for what you take it for but ...

All prescription drugs are harmful over a period of time.

They're factory manufactured chemicals that you put into your organic body. What do you expect?

I took it for 2 months and gained 30 pounds!
Remeron (mirtazapine) affects chemicals in your brain that may become unbalanced and cause symptoms associated with depression. It is used to relieve symptoms of depression such as feelings of sadness, worthlessness, or guilt; loss of interest in daily activities; changes in appetite; tiredness; sleeping too much; insomnia; and thoughts of death or suicide.(Chemical Name: MIRTAZAPINE (mir-TAZ-a-peen) )
I took Remeron for less than a year, and have had no negative effects from it, now 3 years later. I would recommend talking to your physician or a pharmacist about concerns with long-term usage. Also, you might want to look over the FDA information and studies conducted on Remeron at: http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/safety/2004/...

Have a nice day :)
