Is the bruising bad enough
I gave in... I bruised my arm several times and right now it's all red and green and very sensitive to the touch.
I've always thought of myself as a mild self harmer... but would banging my arm over 10 times on a wall forcibly qualify as more intense? I mean... the marks will go away within a week or two (granted I don't do it again before then... though I'm afraid I will), and I don't cut myself - something I consider really going over the edge because you lose blood.
This isn't bad enough that I need to get professional help, right? I only suffer from mild to moderate depression... and it's not interefering with my school work or hobbies. (BTW: I live on a college campus.)
Answer:That is self-harm... it is called "hitting". I would suggest the below site. It is good you have not cut, but it seems it is getting worse, and you may find yourself (like it or not) getting worse to the point where you DO. That is what Self Injury does, it is progressive, it gets worse and worse so slowly you can't tell until you are in too deep. You may want to talk to a councelor, but you may not have to.
You are not alone in this.
I hit myself too, that is how I started, but now I cut and burn as well.
Harming yourself is more than depression. I suggest you talk to your doctor or psychologist and explain exactly what you said here, and of course mentioning your need to continue this activity. There's a lot better world out there, girl. Keep doing neat things for yourself (very important) and get yourself help!
any kind of abuse is self harm
talk 2 me if you want
Well it seems to me you have to have some way to let out aggression.Self inflicted pain can be a temporary fix since you have something new to think about.I'm sure you just didn't bang your arm against the wall for no reason, did you?I'm sure its nothing to worry about but if you do find that your self inflicted levels of pain start building a so called tolerance and you crave more, then yes I would seek professional help.
