Is someone more credible when they are drunk

I was just wondering whether someone while under the influence (drunk) is likely to tell to the truth, just be more honest with what they are saying... I know this person that hates to talk about certain things but when under the influence speaks out her mind like there's no tomorrow... Can these things being said be taken to be true, out of her subconscious, or can they just be random mumbling due to the alcohol... Can you guys help me here, there are some things that were said that are very important to me if they were to be true... should i take them as serious or simply desregard them as b.s. due to the alcohol? Thanks.

Answer:

Not everyone becomes more jovial--I have an aunt who gets drunk and beats me up. Without provocation. Think of how many "mean drunk" stories you've heard or seen in movies.

In my experience (and hey, hey! I come from 2 family lines of alcoholics), the alcohol "removes" inhibitions. People say that and I find it true. So, a lot of people become more out-going (they lose the shyness), some become violent (they lose the desire to pass themselves off as "sane" or "nice"), and some people may become promiscuous (acting out desires that they normally hold in check).

Using that idea, it makes sense that your friend might be saying things that she would normally hide. However, it could be the things she is saying are fears or speculation--not hard facts. These may "just" be the rambling thoughts that come falling out. If everything you ever supposed or thought about was out loud, you'd not purport them to all be truths or facts. Think about that, too.

A sober mans thoughts are a drunk mans words...remember that.
Many people say that drunks speak the truth. Not in my experience. They are more jovial, more happy and love everybody. Whether itx appropriate or not. I realise that not everyone behaves the same when they're drunk but there's certainly no way I'd ever believe anything a drunk told me.
