I lost my mind due to insanity (hospitalization for it).... Officially called "bi-polar with psychosis." Medication used to treat it was a high dose of Geodon. Medication used for stabilization was a low dose of Geodon.

After the hospital, I stayed at my parents' house for 9 months with an older therapy dog pet for company.

After nine months, I took 2 classes at college. Going part-time was something that wasn't too stressful and the orderly routine of school helped to rebuild cognitive ability.

Then I continued to take classes.... building up over a year's time to going to school with a normal schedule.

I still live at home with my parents, but I'm able to go to college and hopefully finish a degree in business. I'm not 100% recovered, but it's getting much better. I get good grades in school, too.

So, yes, I think it's possible to rebuild. Slowly and methodically.... over several years' time.

Yes it is.

The body is a wonderful, self correcting organism, if you give it the proper tools to do it:

good nutrition and exercise, including brain exercise (it works too).

It has been found recently that brain cells DO regenerate, they just take longer than the normal ones. But you have to treat them very well, NO smoking, NO drugs, proper nutrition and exercise.

Making new (good) friends will help greatly, the brain thrives on good friendships. If you go to a church, start there. If you don't, than find a good, lively one, that is where good friends are found in general.

These will do the trick for you.
