ADHD is Highly Over diagnosed!!

Think about this fact:

After 20 minutes of inactivity one's brain quits learning effectively.

This makes sense when we look at kids who have to sit for at least an hour at a time (if not longer). They get agitated, move around, aren't able to focus. All these are symptoms of ADHD and yet can be explained simply by the fact I listed above.

Psychology website on ADHD, it's prevalance, and it's overdiagnosis.

hello, my firstborn was first diagnosed at the age of 9 with adhd and then at 11 with nonverbal learning disorder. (He is 12 now). My second child also has a learning disability and was diagnosed at the age of 2 with a mild form of Autism, then at 8 the testing was done again, diagnoses remains the same. He is 10 now. Although it is hard raising children disabilities I have found that trying not to put emphasis on the disability and more on the strengths is a very rewarding approach. It helped me anyway. Both of my children are now reading, although my 12 year olds comprehension is not great. Hang in there! there are many good websites online as well. Yahoo has a group called NLD-In-Common in which parents of children with disabilities exchange helpful information, and it is great for comradery! Hope this helps!
Hi there. If support is what you are looking for. I might be of a little. My sister in law has downsyndrome. my little brother in law has adhd and other problems. plus I have worked in group homes with the developementaly disabled. All I can say is your are strong, It takes a lot of strength and patients to do this, and it is never bad to ask for help when you need it. Make sure you have a supprt system. that can help too. well those words of wisdom are not that great. Just know that you are not alone and I don't know you or your situation, but I'll bet you are doing fine. I hope this helps a little.
