Alcoholics Anonymous also helps friends and families of alcoholics (even if the alcoholic is unwilling to attend). This is extremely helpful and I strongly suggest that you look up your closest meeting and give them a call!
Yes it is treatable
yes it can be treated you cannot be cured and will be forever "a recovering alcoholic" but you can stop drinking with help from your gp
uncommonforum.com is a good place to look
Alcoholism is a genetic disorder. Drinking is a behavior. Alcoholism isn't treatable, but it's possible to be an alcoholic and not drink. millions do it.
Age of the said man? Is he drinking on prescription drugs? Please edit?
Drinking on scrip drugs can make him very violent , he doesn't appear to be drinking massive amounts here? Always a reason to drink your partner yeah? Happy he drinks sad he drinks! Yes of course he can get over this but he has got to want to thats the healer!! He has the age on his side here to! He could drink more when off the scrip drugs?
Yes, but with depression, comes medication, and with meds, you really shouldn't drink. From my personal experience, no, he may never return to the same way he was before, but it will come close once he regulates medication. Sometimes, with some types of depression the medication can be temporary....but ensure the doctor advises him on this, and he doesn't decide on his own to stop them because he "feels fine". Alcohol consumption should cease until he is regulated again, which takes up to 3 weeks once meds begin.
