God BLess
Through my knowledge of people, it is possible that mental sickness can happen through genes. But depression can happen to anyone. It does not mean that you can get crazy just because someone has been sick mentally in your family. I have a friend whose mother is mentally ill and her sister is in depression, too. But she is perfectly OK. My advice for you is to keep up being positive about yourself. Pray!
I know that one well, yes it is genetic,my oldest girl has paranoid schizophrenia and now my youngest girl is going through this terrible torture of mental illness too,an uncle killed himself at only 31 years old and I have servere depression,so my family is very disfunctional too,but please dont focus too much on your family's mental illness try to just keep yourself as well as you can otherwise it will wear you down it helps me just to keep a diary of my feelings .
Some mental health problems, particularly Bipolar / manic depressive are hereditary, so there could be a genetic link. That said, it just MAY make you more LIKELY to get Bipolar, it isn't OBLIGATORY, you do not HAVE TO get it.
There is a chance that you chould be turning it into a self fullfilling prophesy - you think you SHOULD be bipolar, so you behave like it - you do this without realising it, so it's not your fault.
However, the best course of action is to see a doctor, so you can get diagnosed IF NECESSARY, and get any treatment you may need
