Is Mental Health DISORDERS are GENES RELATED
.... My Ant (mother side) was in Mental institution all her life, my mother is manic depressive under Lithium after 10 OD suicide attempts, I done one ..., and thinking I am GOING CRAZY,i feel very depressed , Is it in MY genes to be "Crazy", or is it random
Answer:Genetics play a role, but don't make you mentally ill on their own. There's an enviromental aspect. Your depression doesn't mean that you'll develop bipolar disorder or that you'll go crazy. Most people who suffer from depression even clinical depression are mentally ill for awhile, but eventually find their way back to mental health. Get some help for your depression. You're not crazy. Try therapy and life style changes first and if you get desperate go for the meds. Remember, the chemical imbalance that is ever so talked about could very well be a result of the depressive thinking and behaviour. No one knows which comes first and if it's the thinking and behaviour that occurs first, that doesn't mean it's not genetic or even biological. There is very little that we actually know and understand about the human brain and as it relates to genetics and 'who we are' and how we suffer. Good luck!
It is partly to do with Genes. It is a chemical imbalance and can be treated. You also have to treat yourself. If you accept and give in to your problems then they have concjured you. Dont stress though. If you feel that you have a problem talk to your family and to your doctor. Life is full of tests, it is all on how we deal with them. You can do anything you put your mind to, You might need help to do it, but you get that much more credit for asking for it. Good luck and Good health to you.
Having parents with mental disorders does make a child much more likely of having them as well, but there is speculation to whether these disorders are genetically inherited or whether they are learned as we introject our parents values and quirks. If it's genes, then seeing a psychiatrist and going on prescription meds would be the best approach at dealing with it. If it's learned, then seeing a therapist is best and figuring out more about yourself and how to relearn healthier thought processes.
