Those parents are using it as en excuse because they can't handle their son, the boy seems like a totally normal, intelligent kid to me.

I'm not saying that this is always the case, I am talking about tthis specific family...

No, ADHD is for real. If you had it, or know someone who did, you'd know it was no hoax.

Of course it can be easily used by some to cover up bad parenting or dismiss unruly behaviour, but it's for real and when it is, it's very hard to deal with.

And those who think it didn't exist back when...it's just that no one knew what it was.

Of course, it's likely that less than 10% of the brats claimed to have it actually do.

its a label parents have come up with to excuse their poor parenting in MOST situations. IN very FEW it is a form of bi polar disorder. which is completely diffrent and somewhat treatable with behavior modifictaion and other fatctors

No, my son has ADHD and I can control him just fine. And actually ADD has been around for a long time. They only added the H because most ADD children are also hyper. He just cannot sit still when it comes to enviorments where he needs to such as school. He is not badly behaved at all...

When I was a child, noone had ADHD. The parents just beat the hell out of you to keep you under control. Now parents have this guilty feeling that they dont want to spank their kids or beat on them like we were. More discipline, less ADHD

i'm sure that is the case with some children, but for others, this is a serious problem that has to be medically treated.

Actually, it's been 'in the news' considerably longer than 5 years...with all the new developments and research in the field, ADHD has been found to have its roots in a learning disability issue coupled with a brain chemical imbalance. Not a result of bad or ineffective parenting.

It has been in the news for 30 years or more. I was aware of it back then. It has existed as a diagnosis for longer than that!
