Increase in depression and ADHD
Why does it appear as if there is a real increase in the amount of people diagnosed with depression? Also, it seems as if the vast majority of school aged children are being diagnosed with ADHD, and medicated. Why?
Answer:There seems to be an increase in ADHD if you notice due to the direct correlation to the increase of the amount of both parents working outside the home as well as the meth use among middle class families. There is always an increase of depression during war time. What isn't there to be depressed about in America anyways? And besides, people are led to believe now that "normal" depression isn't even acceptable anymore. IT's pathetic really. They are led to believe that even a simply emotion such as crying is not okay to do. Or that if your sad over death in the family, you need to be medicated in order to get over it. Also, children who are going through normal anxiety with school are taking over the counter drugs to ease themselves, leading to the use of prescription medication in their adult lives. I could go on and on.

With society trying to become more and more politically correct they are trying to steer away from dicipline. When a child is hyper, rather than punishment, why not say they have a problem and prescribe them a drug to take care of what dicipline used to do.
Depression has always existed. In the past people just dealt with their problems their own way. Now, since medicine is so easily accessable, people look to drugs for help. Most of the time people dont even require the drugs, it is just a quick solution. My mother is on antidepression pills. She has been for 8 years now. She has a chemical imbalance in her brain and the prescriptions are the only thing that can balance her out. Some people legitimitly need the pills, others are just looking for an easy answer.
