I love those self-help books. I know some people look down on them, but I've read a few and they are great for picking you up...especially if you like to read (I get the impression you do).
Another point I'd like to make. I see NOTHING wrong in taking a day (or whatever) to recharge and relax. Just as long as it's not every day, then that's fine.
Good luck...and please don't worry...things will work out...they always do.
You're not really unmotivated, you're depressed. Maybe you should take a semester off, a parent dying is kind of a stressful thing. You need to focus on the future. Your parents were born, they had kids, they got old and then they died. That's the way nature works. My parents are both still alive so I don't really know what you're going through, but that's the way that I'd think about it.
To relieve stress exercise. I was depressed today and took a long walk now because of the natural endorphins my body produced I feel better go out and walk try to find focus on your objectives. What ever you do do not feel sorry for yourself. Be postive at all costs do not drink or otherwise waste your time.
My condolences to you! What I want to add is that it is very important to grieve. Grieve and grieve until it's out of your system. Many people don't like to grieve and don't allow themselves to do so, and it has bad affects.
I have a problem with being very unmotivated also. The best things to do are to workout it gets your feeling good and helps you to think clearly. Then try to find a way to motivate yourself so what your doing on a daily basis doesnt seem so stressful and difficult. Think of how proud of yourself that you will be when u graduate from graduate school and get a great job that will support a great lifestyle. Or just anything that will help you reach the goals that you want to achieve. Good luck ... now get off the couch and get to it !!! :) Also a note on the antidepressents.. there helpful ... ive taken them in the past... but if your workout you will get the same result without the side effects of some of the medications....
I'm very sorry to hear about your parents my condolences to you. I'm sure your parents are great people and I dont think that the day they leave you in this world that they want to hear horrible things about you. You might not notice this but even though they are gone but they are still watching you. If I might add up I dont think they are happy with what they are seeing. They left a legacy and its YOU. You are the memories left by them in this world. The only suggestions I can give is do realise whatever your parents have gone through to brought you up in this world. I dont think they want you to end up as a drop out. Imagine their friends telling 'the parents are good people, dont know what happen to the son/daughter? Bad egg i suppose?' Dont let them bring down your parents. Wake up and smell the roses. Yes the roses is not just beautiful but they do have thorn too. Life is full of complications without needing us to add it up. Be brave. Take a new step and be new you. All the best in life.
There are two causes of motivation; One, is the necessities of the body, and these can lead one toward healthful life or excesses, depending upon the proclivity to the; Second, the motivation of the universal mind, that which relates to others.
