Im telling coworkers I was sick for months due to stress - what do you think was wrong with me

If you were a coworker of mine, what would you think I had? The context is a big IT company, thus white-collar desk work.

I'm not saying more because of stigma associated with what was really wrong with me. Maybe I will be more open at work in a few months, when I am a bit better, and I have a clear diagnosis.

Answer:

Well, I think I would probably say "stress" maybe Chronic Fatigue, maybe marital troubles or family illness, maybe a

bad bout of depression, maybe grief. BUT...

Is it really any of their business?? Seriously.

As far as I'm concerned the only people who would

or should need it know is your boss, and only then

because I'm assuming he/she would need to know

for leave of absence paperwork. If I could suggest

perhaps if you were to be asked try a simple

line like "I really was unwell for awhile there---but

hahaha isn't it great to have me back!!" or be honest with

them if they ask tell them flat out that you would rather not talk about it right now, but that you'll be sure to inform them

when your ready. Nice way of saying back off. Or, maybe if your able say "Gee, I wish I could tell you but even the doctors can't figure this one out!" Change of subject...know what I mean?

Now, if this is a mental health issue, or similiar, honestly, I know it feels stigmatized but really it is getting better and better, as more and more people are taking "stress" leave, and having what have always been called "breakdowns",
