Im dysthymic and refuse to take SSRIs Will I ever get satisfaction out of life

I'm generally a miserable (and whiny) person and have a hard time dealing with stressful situations. I am a chronic underacheiver. I'm only *happy* when I'm on vacation. My life has been pretty easy, but I worry I'll always be miserable and painful to be around. Is there any hope for me if I refuse to take SSRIs? If so, what kind of treatment could help?

Answer:

I agree. If you change your thought process you can change your life. You might want to watch "What the Bleep" that discusses this at length.

If your self-talk is continually, "I'm miserable" and your perceptions are skewed to validate this, then you'll be miserable. If you can change your thinking around so that you take every opportunity to be happy, you're much more likely to feel satisfied with life.

You might also start a grateful journal about what is in your life that you have to be happy about. When you start to live in gratitude, you begin to notice more and more that you are grateful for which can lead to a feeling of being satisfied.

Ernest Holmes has written a LOT on the subject of changing your mind to change your life. You might also read Seligman.

Go to a psychologist that uses Behavl-Cog Approach, u might just need to change the way you think and apply it!
