Answer:
A bi-polar person is only depressed some of the time. As the name implies, the person "flips" from positive to negative (poles),
and so, sometimes they're as happy as a clam. But they can flip
back and forth often.
A person with chronic depression is extremely sad most of the time and seldom seems to be happy. They range in mood
from deeply depressed (even suicidal) to just so-so average.
Good news, though, both can be medically treated.
Chonic depression is a component of bi-polar disorder. Some people think the other part of bi-polar disorder is necessarily extreme highs in mood. That's one way ... other ways include rapid cycling of thoughts, or obsessive behaviors (gambling, collecting things...).
people with bipolar disorder can be "stuck" in depression or hypomania for years.
no it can't
Hello "by the way". All mental illnesses symptoms overlap since they are all caused by the neurotrasmiters not functioning properly. When a person is in the down mood of Bipolar the symptoms are very similar to chronic depression. Depression does not have the "up" mood that Bi polar has. A person who is depressed is always depressed (the mood does not swing). Argentox2@yahoo.com
