Admitting that you are powerless over the addiction and that your life has become unmanageable will help.
Check you the AA 12 sets and change the word alcohol to what ever the addictions are and you got a start.

No there isnt an imbalance, its the fact that you have found things that make you feel good for whatever reason. Think of it like taking drugs because they make you feel good, its like a natural high. However bad things will happen in the future, but its more of a psychological problem, that may need to eventually be addressed to a shrink, but no its not an imbalance of any kind.
