If I used to have OCD, do I still
Yesterday some on this forum suggested that I have-had OCD. I still check my alarm clock in series of 3, 24 times or so before I can sleep but other than that and some obsessive thoughts, I think I'm alright. My question is this: Last year I was feeling my neck and thought I maybe felt a bump. I had my parents, even my friends feel it to see if they agreed. No one felt a thing. I work in research and had been using radioactive substrates. I pictured myself with cancer over and over again (it doesn't happen in 3 mo of radiation exposure and I know that.) Anyway, I became depressed for 2 months minimally worrying constantly and forever touching and rubbing my neck.Coworkers noticed it.I would look forward to sleep for relief.I hadn't been to my GP in 10 yrs, yet I had 3 doctors I work with and my GP (finally went) tell me I was fine.I didn't believe them and continued doing this for a month more. Can OCD manifest itself this way?Is this common worry or is it possible I still have OCD?
Answer:If you were ever diagnosed with OCD....it can come and go throughout your entire life..... I was diagnosed with it 28 years ago, and it comes and goes even still. Depression can also go along with it........
you cant be cured of ocd it just nips beneath the surface now and again if you have been checked over and over by others i would say you are fine medically
Does it matter if it is OCD? Will the label solve the problem? Or make you feel better? If your life is negatively impacted by worry or compulsive behaviors, seek a professional to talk it over with. Get off the circular tract of searching the internet for solutions and, instead, sit face to face with someone that can help you evaluate what's going on and come up with solutions to making your life better. If putting a label on it will make you feel better, fine, do that too. But, I invite you instead to take positive action toward moving your life forward, rather than worrying about this too and getting stuck.
Yes, You will always have OCD. And after reading more you seem to have some anxiety disorder as well. Try this site to read some stories so you can relate. It's www.panicsurvivor.com. Good luck to you.
I believe that if you are questioning that you are OC, then you probably are. It is common to worry about your health, but it does sound like you have somehow obsessed about getting cancer from a lump in your neck. I would seriously suggest that you NOT picture yourself getting cancer - the mind is powerful and it could possibly manifest a cancerous lump just because you BELIEVE it is there. Picture yourself healthy, picture yourself with a cute guy, picture yourself creating the next masterpiece on canvas - don't obsess over negative things. Be more positive and I think that even if you do exhibit OC behaviour, if you are positive, good things may happen!!
