anyone have any suggestions as to how to deal with this. Don't say make a pro or con list because I can't even make a choice of what to make a decision about. When I was growing up my parents would not allow me to make any decions and it has really messed me up. I need to figure out where to live, how to live, etc. and can't decide. HELP!!!! What do I base my decisions on when there is a universe full of choices?????
Answer:having some purpose in life can help, try the book "purpose driven life". good book!
If this is really impacting on your life, then you should seek help. Maybe some therapy might help. Many people are indecisive, but not quite to the extent you describe. Some personalities are indecisive, such as Gemini star sign and pisces, swimming in different directions, but I think your indecisiveness may be more serious. See your doctor and see what he/she says.
Stay with the safety of the known- yes inside the box...begin there...if you are not a student become one...that will force you to make some decisions, and you will get better at it. Before long you will be able to think outside of the box and make decisions outside the box. INDECISION could result from procrastination and if procrastination is your problem...you have to force yourself to not procrastinate...order food...in a hurry...risk it..don't read the whole menu...limit yourself to one minute when ordering food...limit yourself to 3 minutes on a garment to wear...limit yourself to 5 min on a gift for someone else...limit yourself to a month on terminating a relationship and big things like the purchase of a new car or an apartment. By making rules for yourself and limitations on decision-making time can help you.
Whenever you need to make a descision, call your parents and ask them what you should do. or flip a coin
if you think about it most choices are not life changing. you also probably make 100 decisions a day without even knowing it.
Follow your instincts and try not to second guess your-self after you've made a decision. Start with small decision making first and go with your gut, if it feels like a good thing try it, if it feels like it might be a wrong choice or something may be off, then let it go. I also have that problem and always second guess my-self, but I've found that following my instincts usually is dead on.
being unable to make decisions is a symptom of depression. even such simple decisions as being faced with two boxes of cereal in the morning and being unable to decide which one. i suggest you see a psychologist or a psychiatrist. this will really make your life easier. life should not be hard, so find help
Flip a coin. Heads I do this, tails I do that. You'll figure out later if you made a good or bad decision, and you should have a chance to try again. If it turns out bad, don't beat yourself up, just say "I learned from that."
