It's your age, not the times we live in. You are at or slightly past the mid-point of an average life. You are a mature adult and are likely noticing that each passing year seems to be going faster?

As far as "these dangerous times"... What decade hasn't harbor some danger (or perceived danger)? Desert Storm, Avian Flu & SARS, Vietnam War, Cold War, death from common diseases before the vaccines we enjoy today, Great Depression and so on. It's you age. None of this stuff fazes kids because, thankfully, they don't yet have our awareness or realize our limited mortality.

This feeling is normal. And as another person replied, don't dwell on it! Enjoy yourself. Get a hobby that involved meeting with others. An active church group. Something.

I've lost two people close to me in the past few months and I know that's why it's on my mind. I think depending on your health and life circumstances (and age) we all have times where we are more reflective on our mortality. I do know what you mean.

I would say it would be because of the society in which we live. 48 isn't 'old' so it wouldn't have any relavancy to thinking of death constantly. However, it could just be something in your subconcious.

Could be you are preparing yourself for the inevitable......it could be that you have lost a lot of people around you......it could be that you need to remove this picture from your mind and get on with your life !
