I recently abruptly stopped my medication

health advisory Hospital Mental Health 2007-11-15 18:59:54

I was on strateraline (or something like that- it's the generic name for zoloft) and I kept forgetting to take it for about a week and then when I remembered i made the bad decision of not taking it. it has been about a month or month and a half and at first i had really bad reaction like dizziness, headache, mood swings, but still didn't take it and lived through it. now i just have EXTREMELY bad mood issues, like i will be watching tv like a game show and something good will happen and I will feel like I am about to burst into tears?!

How long is this going to last? Is there any way to help this along? I've seen a doctor but i made my choice clear now that i've been off it so long im NOT taking it again (it made me dull as a robot), and i am seeing a therapist so I don't want to hear that. Just tell me how long this will last, and tell me about your similar experiences. Anything to help me out?

Answer:

Yea,it makes you happy when you don't want to be..........give it some more time, things will even out. It took me about 2-3 months give or take. Paxil works better for social anxiety. Even better yet is if you can learn to deal and feel Good about yourself. Stay with the counseling and good luck.

You were on the medication for a good reason. You obviously need to be on something. Talk to your doctor about going on a new med- there are all kinds out there. Don't think you can beat depression- you can't. Help yourself, please.
HEy i stopped my pills today also. i was on effexor 175mg . wanna keep track of each other>?>> mail me
I'm not sure how long it will last. But, I take Lexapro for anxiety, and stopped taking it for 2 months. I went to the Dr. because I was extremely tired, dizzy, and also had mood swings. He informed me that I should not have just quit taking the medication, so I started back on it and feel better. From what I've heard w/ Lexapro and Zoloft, that you should wean your body off the medication, not just stop taking it.

Sorry I can't say how long it will last. Hopefully you'll feel better soon! Hang in there.....
