I have problems sleeping

health advisory Hospital Mental Health 2007-11-15 18:59:41

It takes me an extremely long time to fall asleep, and sometimes I stay up for hours and hours and eventually get up and sleep on the floor by my parents.

How can I fix this so I fall asleep quicker, longer, and better? (tips, scinetific info, etc, etc) anything that helps!

Thanks!

I am not the best one to answer this since I have the same problem but I find that if you are really tired it is much better. So what that means is to get at least some exercise during the day and don't get any more than 8 hours sleep even if you are tired all day.

You must cut out the soft drinks with caffeine a few hours before bedtime. I drink only 7-up from 6PM on. I force myself to do this so I won't slip up and drink anything with caffeine.

Tryptophan really works so eat turkey as your last mean of the day.

Also be sure you don't have sleep apnea. If you snore, there is a good chance that you do. Ask your parents to listen to you while asleep... if your breathing pauses while you are asleep, then you probably have sleep apnea. Everyone says that makes you tired but in your case it's your subconscious fear of going to sleep, assuming you have apnea.

Stay off caffenie of all kinds.
Apple can help at least once a day.
try sleeping aids
take lunesta
there could be several reasons you can't fall asleep at night. Maybee you have so much on your mind you keep pondering issues and can't fall asleep if this isn't the case then maybee your brain has a seratonin deficiency this is a chemical that your brain produces it is what make a person sleep if this is the case there a medicines available to replace your body with synthetic seratonin.
Do you work hard or work out during the day? Working out or doing manual labor will improve your sleep greatly. When you come home you will be more tired if you've work hard in some way. Being thin also helps, overweight people often do not sleep well.
One of the greatest deterents to sleeping well at night is you haven't used up much energy during the day...haven't gotten enough oxygen. Try exercising every day outdoors...whether it is jogging, running, walking...just breathe in that oxygen and use up that energy. Also don't eat anything after 6PM...the body's fires of metabolism should not be stoked before you go to bed. They should be resting along with you.
Well, At the first level you should see a doctor, but when i had this problem, I tried to wake up in the morning and do lots of work, and do 1.5 hrs exercise in the evening. You'll get very tired if you don't sleep in the middle. Also try to not think about anything while goin to bed.
