health advisory Hospital Mens Health 2007-11-15 5:39:22

im a male and tomorrow is my first day for high school track practice, what will it be like. I haven't ran in about 4 onths cause i had some foot problems but im guessing i could run a mile in 7:30. is that an alright time to start practicing with

Answer:

long distance? its ok to go to track, dont get 7.30, but prob 11.30. since you havent ran in 4 months, take it slow and gradual cause you might rip a musscle. i do track, and, yes, you will be in searing pain if you over work your mussles. Yes, i have suffered this pain, cause i ran 100m in 12 seconds flat. hurts like hell.

any time is an alright time to start with...the coach will start everyone out slowly, so no one gets hurt...we usually started with a mile and then back to the school for more stretching and such...Try to remain calm, because you are putting too much pressure on yourself...
the past participle of the verb "to run" is (have) run...but the time is slow unless you are very hurt or very young...a healthy male should be under 6 minutes...I have coached several boys under 4:20

good luck.....btw run in the off season, 40-60 miles of "tempo" jogging and then 1 or 2 fartleks per week where u do speed surges...always wear good shoes and also take 1 day off per week

7:30 is a decent time to start practicing with. My first time, I started out with a 7:50 and I improved my mile time to 6:05 just from practicing. Just make sure you don't slack off during practice or you're not going to get any better.
