Why do beer mats stick to the bottom of your glass
AND FALL OFF INTO YOUR LAP WHEN YOU JUST GET THE GLASS TO YOUR MOUTH EMBARRASING OR WHAT ?
Answer:This is a very thoughtful and wise question. Many studies in both Exeter Univesity and in Bristol Uni versity in the late 1990s have observed this fascinating phenomenan and spent literally millions in their physics dividsins trying to answer this . I quote from Professor Darkwood in the last paragraph of his thesis p.179, paragraph 6
"The relativity of the mass to the circumference of both the beer mat and the glass is inversely proportional to the ratio of the two opposite directions taken upon the veretical lift. " He concldes in the second paragraph after this " Thus a a direct result the mat at this point falls from the force up in the greate attraction downwards".
So my friend, nothing new under the sun as the Great Roger Rickard once said. Simple dynamics. Check it out yourself on the University website. Fascination reading!
yes
it is from the sweating of the glass that gathers around the base. Try sprinkling salt on the beer mat or cocktail napkin, it usually works well!
Condensation
the condensation of the liquid on the bottom of the glass sticks to the mat/coaster and its corrugated fibrous material. Try being more careful....
its sods law -
