The identity of the first Stig was revealed to be Perry McCarthy when his book Flat Out, Flat Broke was published in 2003. McCarthy is a former Formula 1 driver and test driver for the Benetton, Arrows and Williams teams, and also tested for BMW F1.

The first stig was supposedly "killed off" by driving a Jag off HMS Invincible - this was the black stig

The second stig may or may not be the same guy but more widely known as white stig

My answer is in respect to the black stig and possibly white also

Initially the Stig, in black, was Perry McCarthy. After his demise, it was Julian Bailey. However, both Damon Hill and Ben Collins have filled the role for odd shows.

I know someone who works at the airfield where TG is filmed. Apparently Damon Hill has been seen at the track while The Stig has been on the track which more or less counts out Damon. My 'source', (god, I feel like the News Of The World) believes there are 2 Stigs, one being Ben Collins and one other, though he doesn't think it is Mansell. One thing to say, what a superb team for keeping his identity secret all this time. Some say, I wish I was his love child, others say, he is my love child, all I know is...............he's The Stig!!!!!!!!!
