You question is a hot topic. If you type <circumcision> into yahoo's search engine, it will give you 1000 sites that deal with it.

Some people are as strongly against it as others are opposed to abortion and picket about it. There are organisations of doctors, nurses, Jews, and others who are against circumcision. You will find pages strongly advocating it. You will find support groups for men who have been circumcised and are grieving for their missing foreskin.

Here is a statement from some doctors:

"Is Circumcision Necessary?

The use of circumcision for medical or health reasons is an issue that continues to be debated. Currently, the American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend routine circumcision for newborn males stating the evidence was not significant enough to prove the operation's benefit. The procedure may be recommended in older boys and men to treat phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) or to treat an infection of the penis."

Some claim that it improves hygene. What improves hygene is washing. You don't cut off your toes to prevent toe "jam" from developing between your toes!
