I think its based on your parents' height.
Answer:To get a rough estimate I think it's the simple equation of your hight at 20-22 months old (I don't remember exactly, but it's in that range) and multiply it times two. For example, my 21mo old daughter is 33'' tall so 33x2 is 66. She'll be around 5'6'' when she is full grown. I'm almost 5'5'' so I'd say that is a pretty accurate prediction. I think the rules are a bit different for boys, but anyhow, here is an online calculator you can try:

I think they take into account what you look like when you're born. The doctor apparently predicted me to be 6'3", "Your father is 6'2" and you have some weird bone structure and unusually high birthweight..."
You will most likely be of similar height as that of your mother's father. No formula, just genetics.

The ancient Romans on average were less than 5 feet tall, now they are not. In large families you find sibblings maturing at varying heights. There is no way of really knowing how it is going to work out.
