Pull the skin TIGHT and use a high-moisturizing shaving cream (soap will not cut it).

Soak a cloth in HOT water and then place it on your beard area for at least 30 seconds prior to trying to shave. This will raise the hairs, soften them and also soften the follicles so it won't pull so badly.

Use a good moisturizer after shaving.

I think it's different for each man. My brother has to use sensitive skin shave cream and can only have 2 blades on his razor or he gets razor burn badly. My bf uses 4 blades and cant shave unless he has a super thick shave cream and they both use a sensitive skin after lotion. I think you just have to play around with your options and figure out whats best for your skin.
