women are supposed to have yearly gyno checks starting at age 18..or when they start having sex. what is the recomended age for men to have prostate exams?
Answer:40's, earlier if there is a family history of prostate cancer.
45
If they have no problem with urination, it's 50+.
at least by age 40 and above, some medical experts say at age 35
It depends on what you mean by a prostate exam. If you mean a digital exam i.e. w/ the finger, that is almost as useless as windshield wipers on a bulls a s s . A digital exam can only touch 1/3 of the prostate. Get a PSA. If you're over 50 get a PSA at least once a year. If it's over 4.0 get one every six months. Here are the lastest facts on prostate cancer and they're very simple. The older a man gets the more chances are he will get prostate cancer. If he lives to be 65, his chances are 65%. If he lives to 75, his chances are 75% etc. etc. (statistics from RCOG of Atlanta, Dr. Critz MD)
They say to start getting them done in you mid to late 40's. If you have family history of prostate problems then you may want to get it done earlier. I had to get one once when I was 33 and they are not that bad. Not something I would want to do for fun or everyday though.
