Can bench pressing stint my growth
The question is straight forward. Im 6'1 trying to lose some pounds and get ripped. My mom wont let me though she wants me to be tall as possible and says i wont grow anymore. But alot of people have told me it doesnt effect your height, wondring if some one can tell me what to tell my mom or if my mom is wrong and it doesnt effect your height. Thanks
Answer:there are alot more factors involved in your growth than just benchpressing. nutrition, exercise, rest, stress all will play a role in how tall you grow. not to mention your genetics.
in truth, however benchpress is not the best way to lose pounds and get ripped. you'll need to do high calorie burning exercises that utilize alot of your leg muscles in order to lose weight most effectively. body weight exercises, like pushups, pullups, and dips are generally thought of as not harmful to growth regardless of age, and will produce a more "ripped" appearance, especially if you do the exercises from a variety of angles engaging smaller stabilizing muscles. this will yield a stronger area of the body, as well as reduce the likelyhood of injury. if you are really young, like less than 15, you should have professional guidance if you really want to incorporate heavy weightlifting.
You don't say how old you are. The human body doesn't fully mature the skeleton until you are 25 but many of us start weight training well before this age. Your mum is just looking out for you. Speak to a gym and get their advice on a programme suitable for someone your age and your weight.
Good luck and thank your mom for being your mum..she just loves you!
