Armpit Cyst Again
For about the fourth time in my life, I have this cyst on my armpit the size of a large marble. It is in the same exact spot as previous years and shows up at the exact same time (whenever the weather gets hot enough to start sweating). I've been to the doctor twice for it and told it was nothing, given a cream and sent home ... it would disappear almost immediately.
I am doing this again, but the appointment isn't for a few days and I must have really irritated it at work (bartending, tighter shirt, very hot) and it is brutally painful.
Thus, is there any OTC cream I can use just to keep this thing from hurting so frigging bad until I get to the dermatologist?
Thanks.
I am a 27-year-old male. I only say that since the recommended category was women's health and I just want to clarify that in case anyone was factoring that in when replying.
Answer:You should apply warm moist compresses for about 20 minutes each time three or four times a day. It will bring this rapidly to a head. It may pop on it's own. Do you have a fever? I am so surprised that your doctor will not see you earlier than 2 days from now--that is unusual. Call your doc back and exaggerate a little--tell him that you are feeling feverish and nauseated and that the area feels hot to the touch--they will get you in right away. Trust me, I am a nurse. Normally, I would not recommend fudging, but you NEED to be seen NOW. I am sure that hurts like hell, and besides, there really is a high likelihood that you really could get feverish, etc from a systemic infection or cellulitis.
hydrocortisone cream...you can also try some plain talc just to keep it dry.
you need to have the cyst cut out. the medicine takes care of the symptoms but the cyst will continue to reoccur if not surgically removed. it can be done in the office with a local anesthetic, then the problem will be over.
"Sabrina" and "gfrog" are correct. My wife had a series of these and until she actually had the cyst removed - not just drained - it continued to fill up, just as has happened to you.
But, let a doctor do it. Don't think that you can do it yourself. A bad infection could make you very sick and cause a number of other problems. Trying to "pop" it could jam material deeper into your muscle tissue and go elsewhere in your body.
