Iodine is needed by the body for the production of hormones. These hormones are manufactured by the thyroid gland and are therefore commonly known as thyroid hormones. Thyroid hormones have many functions in the body, all of which are essential for normal physical and mental development, including growth. When the diet contains insufficient iodine, the thyroid gland cannot make enough thyroid hormone to satisfy the body鈥檚 need. The thyroid gland becomes enlarged due to its desperate efforts to produce the hormone; this enlargement is known as goitre, which is the outward sign of iodine deficiency.
Hope this answers your question!
Iodine speeds up the metabolism and helps with our energy levels. It controles our weight.
It helps your thyroid gland. You can get stuff in the Health Food store, but I would not take it unless you need it. The thyroid gland regulates how you burn the food that you eat. If you have a slow thyroid, then you can get fat, etc., and if you are not burning the food, it can affect the heart too. If the thyroid gland burns fast, then you could be thin. It is best to keep it at a normal level. You can find out through blood test. Most vitamins have it in them, just multiple vitamins. Iodine is in salt, so too much can make your blood pressure go up and retain water in your body. Hope this explains it. I have thyroid problems and take Levoxyl.
One of the halogens, iodine is an essential trace element; the thyroid hormones, thyroxine and triiodothyronine contain iodine.
