why do we have lid edema after crying
I'm not sure if i am correct.its just my own imagination
So what happens when we cry? the lachrymal gland present in out eyelids begin to secret the lachrymal fluid.lachrymal glands are present in the eye lids,i hope u must be knowing this.
so when these glands become active and begin secreting the fluid or tears, they undergo hypertrophy,to produce large amount of fluid.which means they increase in size.
but this takes place only when the person cries because crying requires large amount of fluid to be secreted.so as the gland hypertrophies it compresses the surrounding arterioles, and the plasma within the arterioles experience pressure.from the hypertrophying gland.and since these arterioles get compressed, venous drainage naturally decreases and as a result the fluid in the arterioles(not the blood,RBCs)begin to come out of the arteries in the eyelids.they later occupy the extracellular space leading to edema.
Any way I'm not sure yaar.so please do not criticize my answer in case its wrong.
Tears flow along the edge of the eyelids toward the nose over the surface of the eye. Just before reaching the corner of the eye, the tears flow into two tiny drain tubes and then into a larger tube of the eyelids that carries the tears into the nose. The tube is so tiny that when you cry and produce more tears, some of the tears gets congested on such small tube resulting the tears to flow down and some some fluids get trapped in the tissues under the eyes .That gives the explanation of having lid edema after and also explains why crying often causes the nose to become congested.
