Is there enough quinine in the tonic water to make a difference? Can drinking too much tonic water have unwanted effects
Answers:Quinine is commonly prescribed by doctors to releave leg cramping, but it is not an FDA approved indication.
The typical dosing of quinine for leg cramps is between 200-300mg every day. Today tonic water has a maximum concentration of 70 mg of quinine per liter. That means to get the same amount as you would get in a pill prescribed by a doctor, you would have to drink 3 to 4 liters a day!
Too much quinine can have severe side effects, but the quantity of fluid you would have to consume would make it hard to happen.
quinine is ok in small doses but be careful. Too much can cause temporary blindness
It helped me with calf cramps, but I didn't drink more than a bottle.
Quinine is an anti-malaria drug. Tonic water was developed to keep people travelling to Africa from getting sick with malaria. If it has pain-killing properties I am not aware of it.
Try it.
