It's not room temperature issue or too many coverings.
Answers:Night sweats severe enough to require the changing of the bed linens can be caused by several things. Some of these are benign while others can be more serious. If the night sweats have persisted for more than a few days it would be in the best interests to go and get examined by your primary care physician.
Menopause, in a word. Another thing that can result in night sweats is tuberculosis. Don't know if you are a candidate for either of those two, but those come to mind.
There could be many reasons, you did not say if it was a man or a woman doing the sweating.

There are a lot of things that can cause night sweats. Probably the most common of which is stress and anxiety. Some of the less common reasons can be quite serious. I would recommend that this person see a doctor to get a better idea of what's really going on.
Fever.
Or night sweats, which if frequent, can be a sign of TB or HIV or a lot of other things.
