Why would a woman have a HYSTEROTOMY

health advisory Hospital Doctor Yu 2007-11-8 19:09:39

not hysterectomy, hysterotomy?

Answers:

sometimes if the baby is not able to come out through the birth canal they cut the skin and the uterus, which enables them to retreive the baby directly without the mother's help. called a c-section.

Reasons a C-section is performed: Placenta previa, premature separation of the placenta, non-reassuring fetal tracing, fetal distress, failure to progress in labor, secondary arrest of dilatation, arrest of descent, breech presentation, etc.

"Sometimes, if a cesarean is not performed in a timely fashion, the baby can become asphixiated and can become acidotic and die before it can be delivered"

Well it implies a cesarian (or however you spell it) section, which happens during birth when the new born baby needs to get out now while the mother's body isn't ready. THough i'm no doctor, I could be wrong.
To deliver a fetus that can't be delivered vaginally. C-Section.
severe medical problems. could range from heavy monthly periods to cancer
Well, I can answer this one because I just had one 3 weeks ago. Here is a list of reasons: Fibroid tumors that are causing you trouble or growing and you know it will only get worse, endometriosis (sp?), cancer etc. You've got to take care of your health even if it means some temporary pain. Unless you have a death wish or ongoing pain wish or something.
