emo stands for emotional, as in depressed or wearing dank and dark colors. most people just judge others on it, like "oh you're so emo!" if you wear black or such. the literal meaning is emotional and the meaning is dreary colors or moods. and there are many reasons people cut themselves, the main reason would be that they are not happy with their life.

My oldest daughter, injured by her father, was a cutter. It also helps cutters make themselves feel human and alive, by feeling the pain. These folk need help and understanding. Counselling is way good, too.
