What determines the dosage of CQ-10 one should take

health advisory Hospital Alternative Medicine 2007-11-16 3:12:11

When buying it for my mom I didn't know which to get. It came in 50mg, 100mg, 150mg, and 200mg gelcaps.

Since there's a history of heart issues in our family, I just got her the max dose. Is there any reason not to do this?

Answer:

CoQ-10 is extremely safe, even in high doses (it is a naturally occurring antioxidant made in the body). With a family history of heart disease, a high dose may be helpful.

Many other nutrients may also be helpful in reducing your mom's heart disease risks. Nutrients work in harmony, they are not solo drugs.

Best wishes and good luck.

I don't know the dosage (sorry), but to add on to the first answer, if it is taken along with vitamin E, it works wonders in the body. It's great for circulation and immunity, among other things.
CoQ10 can interfere with the action of blood thyinning drug Coumadin. Anyone taking this drug should only take CoQ10 in consultation with a doctor. Otherwise it is normally considered safe.

In his book The Natural Physician's Healing Therapeis, Mark Stengler ND recommends that victims of cardiovascular disease or cancer should take between 300 and 450miiligrams daily. From separate references for preventive purposes I have read that 50mg daily is sufficient.

It works best when eaten with meals. It seems that the gel type is more readily absorbed by the body than powder.

Good luck.
