Benefiber is pretty much the same, tasteless and can be mixed with pretty much anything.
Metamucil is ok, but what you really have to do is increase the fiber content in your diet... as in the foods you eat regularly, not in supplements. Think Raisin Bran, Oatmeal, whole wheat bread and fresh fruit. Forget the soda, white bread and macdonalds.
It is good for regulating your bowels. Be sure you take it with plenty of water or juice. If you need immediate relief use a suppository but to help long term with constipation yes it is good. Try to find out what is causing your constipation though and eliminate the cause. Also if your stools are hard use a stool softener such as Colace aka docusate to help soften your stools till you get this under control.
I have constipation regularly since I had my thyroid removed. Go figure.
I use Phillips caplets. I take them at might and the next morning I can go without stomach cramps or having to drink something that will make me want to throw up! Plus, it works overnight and I don't have to take stuff day in advance for it to work.
If you eat right you get the fiber you need anyway!
hey consider this the best advice ever!! my brother (33yr) had to spend 3 days in the hospital for having intestine blockage. he was instructed to eat more REAL fiber, not fake fiber as the doctors called it. no powders or pills. you have to eat real food. also avoid other meds to stop diahria, you have to let your body run it's course. blocked intestine requires someone "going in" the back door, and removing the plaque!! so do yourself a favor and eat real fiber!! foods with high fiber. good luck!
drink more water, add more roughage like lettuce, oatmeal and other whole grains fruits and vegetables. But yes, metamucil will do it too.
yes it works but it can take several painful days to do the job.
